Known as the most happening place in Valle de Guadalupe since its opening in 2017, Casa Frida Valle never fails to impress, as Valle first-timers América Buenrostro and Efraín Acosta have just discovered on their first visit to Ensenada’s famous wine country.
After lunch, wine tasting and sightseeing around Frida’s multiple wine-oriented concepts, the couple was thinking one last wine tasting that a friendly journalist had recommended them earlier might be a good idea to call it a day. Little did they know they had come upon an unforeseen treat.
When asking about the special tasting they had booked, staff just told them to follow ‘the trail of Chavela’: a stream of rose petals led them through the olive tree garden surrounding the property and into a cellar deep beneath the main Casa Frida building.
After knocking at the door, they were introduced to the realm of Cava Chavela: dark velvet curtains, low-key lighting, floral fragrances and soul-wrenching songs by larger-than-life Mexican singer Chavela Vargas (once the beloved muse of artist Frida Kahlo) set the stage for Casa Frida’s most exclusive experience: an intimate tasting of premium wine, tequila, ibérico and artisanal chocolates.
“Delicious, surprising, this was totally different and unexpected. We will never forget our first visit here, and this stands out as a definite highlight,” said Buenrostro.
Guests are treated to a tasting of four premium wines by Casa Frida: Grisel (100% Chenin Blanc), Desnudo (a blend of Sauvignon 60% Merlot 40%), Chavela (Syrah 90% Viognier 10%) and Petra, the finest house reserve, made with 100% Barbera grapes, all of them paired with artisanal chocolates made exclusively for Frida.
During the secod part of the tasting experience, visitors also taste four different tequilas made by Tequila Selecto distillery from Amatitlán, Jalisco. Cheese boards and authentic Carrasco Iberian Acorn ham, sausage, chorizo and loin is also available for purchase during the experience, which is sure to become one of the must-do experiences in Valle this summer season.
Corazón, the new gastronomic venture of Casa Frida
Chef Carlos Esquivel paints a new canvas full of surprises to honor the culinary art of the region with his Baja-Mexa cuisine: tuna, duck, greens, chiles and Mexican seasonings will win the heart of foodies this season at Casa Frida.
Secreto: wine, beer tasting and memento shop
Designed as a family-friendly space where grown-ups can shop for souvenirs and also enjoy craft beer and young wine tastings, this is the perfect space to wind down from the crowds while still indulging in the Frida experience.
